Over the summer, we shared a blog post celebrating the blue ribbons that our lab technician, Mindy Moeller, won for her book and paper-related entries in the Boone County Fair.  As the first snows of winter loom over Iowa, we’d like to take an opportunity to celebrate the creativity and skill of our Preservation Assistant, Mindy McCoy.

Mindy designed and constructed this delightful book and enclosure in a calligraphy class.  The text, “Sleeping Sardines,” is a poem by Shel Silverstein, from his book Where The Sidewalk Ends (1974).

Mindy used Canson paper for her textblock, and constructed the box from an aluminum newsprinting plate and wire hanger.

As Mindy’s creative interpretation of a favorite childhood classic illustrates, we are lucky to have such talented and creative individuals as part of our Preservation team!
