To celebrate National Preservation Week we’ll be hosting two webinars at both the Parks Library and the Ames Public Library.  You can get information about the times and places on our events page.

Nancy Kraft, the Head of Preservation at the University of Iowa Libraries, will be presenting “Accidents Happen: Protecting and Saving Family Treasures” on Tuesday, April 26.  The webinar will provide useful tips to protect your prized possessions from accidents and disasters, as well as what steps to take if you are not so lucky.  As those of us in Iowa know, Nancy has had lots of experience responding to flooding.  If you cannot make it to the webinar, please take some time to check out our spring thaw tips.

The second webinar will be presented by Bill LeFurgy from the Digital Initiatives Manager at the Library of Congress on Thursday, April 28.  “Preserving Your Personal Digital Memories” will teach you simple tips for addressing the special challenges of preserving digital photos and documents.  If your digital repositories look anything like mine (photo below), I’m sure you’ll find it useful.

The Library of Congress provides lots of useful information about digital preservation on their website.  They have even have a quiz you might find informative.

Bet you were wondering how I was going to get a quiz out of this.
