This is National Preservation Week, and events are happening all across the country to spread awareness of preservation issues.

The Preservation Department here at Iowa State University Library will be hosting two, free preservation webinars, which are open to the public.  Both webinars will be shown in two locations, at ISU Library and at Ames Public Library.  Feel free to bring a brown bag lunch to either event.  Here’s the schedule:

Tuesday, April 26, 1-2 pm — Webinar:  “Accidents Happen: Protecting and Saving Family Treasures
Parks Library, Rm. 192, or Ames Public Library, Community Room

  • This webinar will provide tips for protecting your prized possessions from accidents and disasters, as well as advice in case you are not so lucky.

Thursday, April 28, 1-2 pm — Webinar:  “Preserving Your Personal Digital Memories
Parks Library, Rm. 192, or Ames Public Library, Community Room

  • This webinar will teach you simple tips for addressing the special challenges of preserving digital photos and documents.  Don’t let a computer crash rob you of your treasured memories!

Thursday, April 28, 4-5 pm — Lecture: “The Future of Institutional Conservation: Communication, Outreach & Collaboration”
School of Information, University of Texas at Austin, UTA 5.522

  • Finally, if you’ll be in Austin, TX this Thursday, I will be speaking about institutional conservation outreach activities, including the use of social media.
