Friday Fun for a Good Cause

On Friday at noon, the library experienced its first flash mob.  Members of ISU Dance Marathon gathered on the first floor in front of our Fireplace Reading Room and performed to “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti, “Electric Feel” by MGMT, and “Yeah 3x” by Chris Brown.  You could hear the music throughout the library.

The Dance Marathoners were promoting the club’s 15-hour long dance marathon taking place January 15, 2012 to raise money  to support families across Iowa who have children with life threatening illnesses.   In 2011, the club raised over $264,000 and all proceeds were given to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

More dancer join the fun.

We just thought these students deserved a little attention and accolades for what they are doing.  But if we must bring this back around to preservation issues for you die hard preservation junkies out there: Would there be long term effects on our collections if this happened everyday?
